Technology that has been developed for remote health care typically provides a limited interface between patient and health care provider. The remote telepresence designed by North End Technologies represents a significant advance in the ability to obtain important health information on a regular basis without requiring elderly patients to leave their homes. This pilot study intends to test the feasibility and acceptance of this device in a sample of healthy elders who are active participants in ongoing in-home monitoring research. The study will investigate the attitudes and preferences of elders without memory impairment or with mild memory problems (or Mild Cognitive Impairment, MCI) toward a remote controlled tele-presence device. The long-term goal of this research is to develop new systems that may help people live on their own longer, especially if they are at risk for memory or health problems. The results of this study will help us design future technologies to improve quality of life as people grow older.
